Mandala Hat and Cowl
Crochet this hat and cowl combo using different colours for each round, use a solid colour, or make it with a self-striping yarn. I've used both Rowan fingering weight fine tweed in various colours, and I've used the Blue Light Shawl self-striping yarn from Caterpillar Green. Any heavy fingering weight yarn would work well for this pattern. With a slouchy hat style and a puff stitch cowl, these two pieces are a great combo or work well on their own. They are designed in one size and loosely fit 20" around the head, and about 22" in width around the neck.
Size: To fit an average adult (head measurement of approx. 20" circumference with some positive ease).
Materials: Approximately 600 yds of fingering weight yarn. Used here: Caterpillargreen Yarn, Shawl in Blue Light, as well as Rowan's Fine Tweed in various colours.
Gauge: After completing round 1, diameter should measure approximately 4".
Other Materials: Sewing needle.
Hook Sizes: 4.5 mm crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge—check your gauge to ensure your piece doesn't come out much too big or too small).
